I have been in many marinas in my 70 years of sailing, but none has been as interested in helping you as Sherman’s Marina in Deale, on the eastern shore of Rockhold Creek. Seven years ago when I moved my 35-foot Dickerson ketch to Sherman’s Marina, Frank Sherman became more than just my marina owner. He was someone who cared deeply about you and your boat: a real friend.

I’m writing to you.         I don’t see your face when I’m writing. I don’t imagine the finished paper in your hands, so it’s always a thrill when I do see you pick up a Bay Weekly. When I catch sight of you reading over breakfast or lunch, you probably catch sight of me, too, trying to steal a glance at what page you’re on while looking inconspicuous.

It’s easy when white perch practically jump into your cooler

I was going fishing. Not just any fishing mind you, but fishing of the most fundamental kind. No flies, lures, plugs, spinner baits, fancy casting, clever approaches or studied presentations. Just plain old-fashioned worm fishing with one rod, two hooks and a sinker.     The past two months I had worn myself ragged with early-morning and late-evening sorties, casting plugs and crankbaits for rockfish in the shallows. Success was slight compared to the effort expended.

Pork joins the proteins at Noodles

This month, Noodles & Company at the Westfield Mall in Annapolis is launching a new protein: pork. Founded in 1995 and based in Boulder, Colorado, this fast-casual chain features a variety of noodle-style dishes: Mediterranean, American and Asian. You customize your meal, choosing small or large portions, adding a meat or tofu and soup or salad. Each addition adds calories and price.

It’s been 26 years since Halley’s comet visited back in 1986, and it won’t come this way again until 2062. But each year at this time we get a postcard of sorts from Halley in the form of the Orionid meteor shower, which peaks in the pre-dawn hours Saturday and Sunday.

Now playing at Compass Rose Studio Theatre is a powerful, moving production of an American classic. The Pulitzer Prize went to Harper Lee in her first and only novel, and Oscars for the 1962 film went to Gregory Peck and to Horton Foote for his screenplay adaptation.  

Along the Chesapeake, a fellow they call Bunny stays busy as a rabbit

The plight of this ’41 Chris Craft Sedan Cruiser begins when its owner dies “down South somewhere.”     She’s cast out of her covered shed, homeless. Somebody with an eye for elegant lines takes pity.
