Your Say: How One Local Business Helped Houston after Harvey

While many are starting to forget about Hurricane Harvey after Irma, Maria and Jose, there is still great need in Houston and surrounding areas in which many have lost everything they own.

The entire leadership team of the Keller Williams Three Bridges of Southern Maryland traveled to Texas to volunteer in the cleanup from Hurricane Harvey.

The brokerage traveled to Austin, Texas, and then bussed to Houston each morning and back each night. They spent their days demucking houses alongside others from Keller Williams Market Centers throughout the country. Demucking is the process of taking out any and every thing damaged by flood waters and mold, including furniture, cabinets, appliances, drywall, sheetrock, carpets, floor boards, insulation and anything else that needs to come out so a construction crew will have a clean slate to build upon.

Others from Keller Williams volunteered in other ways like preparing and sorting food at the food bank or helping at the animal shelters that have taken in pets displaced by the storms. The team was honored and blessed to help some amazing Houstonians.

The need is still strong. Many people have a very limited amount of time before their homes will be condemned and they will lose all hope of recovering the places many have lived their entire lives. We implore anyone who has any ability to do so to go to kwrelief.org and donate anything they can. Even $10 will make a difference.

The new Keller Williams Market Center of Southern Maryland will be opening in the White Plains area in October with Business Centers slated for Prince Frederick and Lexington Park shortly thereafter.
