    This no-kill shelter’s mission is to find loving and permanent homes for any adoptable animal, to rescue feral cats and to help with low-cost spay and neutering.

    This all-volunteer animal rescue and no-kill shelter is also an education center to promote the adoption of cats and dogs.

    The Friends focus on rescuing free-roaming or abandoned cats, spaying and neutering them, then placing them in managed colonies or permanent homes.

Pet Day 5K, Sat., Sept. 15
    This walk/run starts at Out Lady Star or the Sea Church and covers ­scenic Solomons Island. Well-behaved dogs welcome; no retractable leashes. 8:30am: $25 w/discounts.
