Wednesday July 3

  Herring Bay is the backdrop for the Independence Day show at Herrington Harbour South. There’s a pre-show outdoor festival with food, music and children’s activities followed by fireworks at dusk. 9pm at Herrington Harbour South, Rose Haven: 410-741-5100;
  Chesapeake Beach creates a kaleidoscope of fireworks over Bay waters at dusk. Reserve a table at the Rod ’N’ Reel or sink your toes into the sand of a beach. Arrive early, as the best spots are usually claimed from 5-6pm. Watching by boat gives you fine vantage: 410-257-2230;
  Claim your spot on the beach or boardwalk at North Beach and bring a blanket and a picnic. 301-855-6681;
  In Bowie, the Baysox combine three American pastimes: baseball, barbecue and fireworks to celebrate America’s birthday. Watch the Baysox take on the Akron Aeros, enjoy a picnic with all-you-can-eat hotdogs, hamburgers and sides, and gaze at an extra-grand fireworks show. Thursday July 4

  Journey to Washington, D.C., for some of the the most astonishing fireworks of all. The celebration begins at 11:45am with the Independence Day parade to the Lincoln Memorial, followed by the National Symphony Orchestra’s annual concert. Fireworks burst over the capital as the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery blasts live cannon into the night air, around 9:15pm.
  Baltimore’s skies flare on the Fourth with thousands of fireworks over the Inner Harbor. Performers entertain from 11am-4pm; fireworks follow at 9:30pm. 877-BALTIMORE;
  Bowie moves the celebration from Allen Pond Park to Prince George's Stadium for more room to celebrate. Watch The Hubcaps perform before the fireworks' show. Parking and admission free. Gates open at 6:15pm; concert at 7pm; fireworks at 9:15pm: 301-809-2302;
  Annapolis works up to fireworks with a parade from Amos Garret Blvd., down West Street and Main Street andending at City Dock (6:30-8pm). The U.S. Naval Academy Wind Ensemble plays an 8pm concert. Then fireworks illuminate downtown at about 9pm. 410-263-7996.
