Young Adult

Do you remember that girl in high school you hated? The one who thought she was better than you, dated the school jock, picked on the nerds and moved away to an exciting life in the city?
Well, that’s Mavis (Charlize Theron: Astro Boy).
Things haven’t been going so well for the high school mean girl: She’s divorced. Her young adult book series had been cancelled. She’s broke.
How will Mavis turn her life around? By going back to her small town home and marrying her high school sweetheart, of course! Never mind that’s he’s a married father and not interested.
The movie comes from director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody, whose last collaboration was award-season favorite Juno. This comedy about an awful woman’s refusal to leave her mental adolescence is earning raves because of Theron’s performance. She’s gleefully unlikable and pretty funny as a maladjusted prom queen out to rewrite ancient history.
