Eyes on the Bay

See photo contest winners

Alan Wilder’s photo of a cormorant trying to snatch another bird’s fish won first place in Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s 2019 Save the Bay photo contest. The win earns him a coveted spot in the organization’s 2020 calendar.

The annual contest promotes awareness of conservation issues related to the Bay, so all photos include a body of water within the watershed.

Wilder captured his image south of the Conowingo Dam. Shoreline beauty inspired the other winners as well.

Kevin Moore’s Reflections of Autumn took second place. His photo shows vibrant autumn colors reflected on Custis Pond in the Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve near Cape Charles, Virginia.

A friendly beaver posed for Jimmy Rode’s third-place photo Curious Beaver, snapped in North Point State Park in Baltimore County.

Starry Sunset earned the Viewers Choice award for James Mertz. His photo used a long exposure to capture the fading colors of sunset as the clear night’s stars take over the sky in Piney Point.

CBF reports 387 photographers submitted nearly 900 images from across the Bay watershed. View all the winning photos at
