Quilters Wanted

If barns aren’t the place you’d look for quilts, maybe you’re sticking too close to home. “Thousands of barn quilts exist around the country including some in Garrett County and Carroll County,” explains Bob Carpenter, executive director of the Arts Council of Calvert County.
A barn quilt is a replica of one square from a quilt, painted on plywood (usually eight by eight feet) and mounted on the side of barn.
Soon you’ll be able to see for yourself in Calvert County, now taking the first steps to launching a Barn Quilt Trail.
Calvert County’s Barn Quilt Trail will begin with 12 quilts, 12 barns — given the help of Calvert County quilters.
In a contest running through April 30, Calvert Countians are invited to submit geometric designs transferrable to an eight-by-eight-foot square. The contest goal is to find designs for the first 12 barn quilts, one of which will become the logo of the Calvert County Barn Quilt Trail.
With your design, include a short explanation including its inspiration. Mail to the Arts Council of Calvert County, POB 2569, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 before April 30, 2016 or email to [email protected].
