More than a Doormat: The Art of Floorcloths

Water resistant, durable, and protective, it is likely that inside every home, from working class to gentry, you could find a painted floorcloth. Artist Jennifer Higgins presents the history of floorcloths and the techniques to make them. After the lecture, try your hand at making your own floorcloth-inspired bookmark out of sailcloth. Ukrainian Egg Decorating (Pysanky)

Created using motifs rooted in nature and the cycles of life, designs are made with simple instruments (made of wood and copper) called kistkas, the humble materials of beeswax and candlelight, and intensely vibrant dyes. Annual Watercolor Exhibition at Historic Linthicum Walks

Robert Indiana Exhibition at the Mitchell Gallery of SJC

Event Date:  March 8, 2018 - 12:00pm - April 22, 2018 - 5:00pm This retrospective exhibition showcases the iconic short works and numbers created by Robert Indiana, one of America’s foremost living Pop artists. Best known for his dynamic images, “HOPE,” “LOVE,” and “ART,” Indiana draws his inspiration from typography found on signs, factory die cut stencils, logos, and billboards. His latest masterpiece, “Like a Rolling Stone,” a collection featuring 1960s pop culture figure Bob Dylan is also included. The exhibition is on view from March 8 – April 22.
