Annual South River Scorecard Presentation

Event Date:  April 22, 2014 - 7:00pm Each year since 2007, the South River Federation has compiled a South River Scorecard presenting data on ten key indicators of the river’s health. These indicators include water clarity, dissolved oxygen, underwater grasses, nutrients, and the abundance of aquatic life. This data has mainly been collected from the South Riverkeeper, but the report also utilizes data from other respected sources such as the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences. Beekeeping Basics: How to Start Your Own Hive

Event Date:  March 16, 2013 - 9:00am - 4:00pm Honey bees are fascinating to watch, and beekeeping is a great family activity. Plus, honeybees make gardens and fruit trees more productive, and the honey they produce is delicious! This 2-session course will cover everything you need in order to have thriving bees from the start, including equipment, honey bee biology, dealing with stings, year-round management, swarm control, diseases and honey extracting. Great for beginning and intermediate beekeepers, or anyone generally interested in honey bees.

Volunteer Naturalist Training

Event Date:  March 7, 2013 - 9:30am - March 19, 2013 - 12:30pm This 4-session course will teach you how to lead educational field trips for school groups. We’ll cover field trip themes, natural history, trailside activities and teaching techniques. No experience necessary – just bring enthusiasm for nature and working with kids.
