Annual Bill Steiner Memorial Canoe Trip

Event Date:  September 29, 2013 - 2:00pm - 7:00pm Join Jug Bay Sanctuary Director, Pati Delgado, for an evening paddle along the marshes of the Patuxent River. The trip is in honor of Bill Steiner, long-time volunteer, canoe guide, and Friends of Jug Bay President. Participants will learn about Patuxent history and wetland ecology along the way. Glide on Parkers Creek

American Chestnut Land Trust guides you out on Parkers Creek, where you’ll paddle thru waters in swamps to coastal salt marsh on this pristine freshwater stream. Bring water and a snack. Be prepared for a possibly strenuous three-hour paddle; you may have to help carry the canoe to reach the creek. 12:30-3pm at Warrior’s Rest Sanctuary, Scientists’ Cliffs Rd., Port Republic.

Paddle the Rhode River

Learn about the ecology, history and wildlife of the Rhode River and Muddy Creek on a guided canoe trip. Basic paddling instruction provided. Dress for the weather and bring drinking water and sunscreen. 9-11:30am at Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Edgewater. $16 w/age discounts; rsvp: www.serc.si.edu.
