Annapolis Memorial Day Parade

Watch from the sidewalk as community organizations, businesses and a marching band parades thru Annapolis. From 10am along West St., Church Circle, Main St. and City Dock, with streets along the route closing to traffic at 9:45am. Memorial ceremony co-hosted by the city and the Fleet Reserve Branch 24 follows at Susan Campbell Park: 410-263-7997;

Chesapeake Beach Stars & Stripes Festival

Chesapeake Beach pays tribute to all who have served. Decorate your home, business or boat in red, white and blue for a prize.   Saturday: Opening ceremony features Kelly Swanson and the Naval Academy Band’s Brass Quintet (10am; Veterans’ Memorial Park, Chesapeake Beach). Nam’s Knights motorcycle ride (1pm). Free moonlight cruise for active military members aboard Miss Chesapeake departing from Rod ‘n’ Reel (7:30pm).  

Worth the Trip to Brew at the Zoo

Bowie Memorial Day Parade ~ free

Community groups, political clubs, school bands and more march and roll in honor of all who fought for American freedom. The parade begins at 11am at the Bowie High School Annex on Belair Drive, winds toward Annapolis Road and ends at Sage Lane. Bring flags, wear red, white and blue and be in voice to cheer. Herndon Monument Climb

  Watch plebes of the Naval Academy’s class of 2016 make a human pyramid to get to the top of the 21-foot tall Herndon Monument to remove the plebe hat. The midshipman who makes it to the top marks the victory by replacing the plebe hat with his or her own. 1:30pm at the monument on the Academy: 410-293-2292;
