Project Wild/ Aquatic Workshop

Painted Palette- Poppies

Event Date:  April 25, 2013 (All day) The Painted Palette is the Baltimore area’s newest venue for art and wine entertainment. Treehugger 5K

Event Date:  April 21, 2013 - 9:00am - 11:00am Hug it out at the 1st annual Treehugger 5K encouraging healthy lifestyles and a healthy environment. This fast, fun and green event provides a great opportunity for you and your family to enjoy our earth’s natural environment. The family-friendly 1K, which runs immediately before Kids Unplugged, makes a loop through Irvine’s amazing meadows, and finishes with kid-friendly relay races and other green games. Wild Edibles: Delicious in a Jar

Event Date:  April 14, 2013 - 9:00am - 12:00pm Did you know your own backyard is a treasure trove of tasty treats? Take a hike through Irvine Nature Center in search of nature’s delicacies and learn the basics of home canning in this exciting workshop! With Naturalist Sara Mills you will learn proper plant identification, preparation and other important tools for safely enjoying wild edibles. Then, come into our kitchen for a short course on canning taught by jelly master Beth Lacey Gill. By the end of our time you’ll be prepped for when spring and summer bounties show up that need preserving.

Bats & Bacardi

Event Date:  April 11, 2013 - 6:30pm - 9:30pm Join your friends at Irvine Nature Center at we delve into the nocturnal world of bats. We’ll focus on the bats found in Maryland, their behavior and ecology, and debunk some of the common myths surrounding these wonderful – not scary – creatures. For those a bit timid, we’ll have plenty of rum beforehand! Presentation by Irvine’s Naturalist Sara Mills. Beverages, cocktails and a simple dinner will be served. Sorry, no children at this event. Migration & Margaritas

Event Date:  March 7, 2013 - 6:30pm - 9:30pm Join your friends at Irvine Nature Center for an evening of food, drink and fascinating facts about the marvels of bird migration. Learn how some of your own backyard birds can fly thousands of miles to Mexico (the land of Margaritas) without a map or compass – a truly remarkable achievement! There’s a Hoot in Your Backyard!

Event Date:  February 16, 2013 - 10:00am - 1:00pm The Friends of Jug Bay again partner with Greenstreet Gardens to bring an exciting live presentation of the owls you hear calling in your South County neighborhoods. Learn about their lives, and learn to mimic their calls and to make crafts for the birds. In addition there will be a lively dance and talk by Chief Turkey of the Piscataway tribe in southern Maryland. Bring your kids and your camera to this unique day of fun, and learn how to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count!
