Here’s where to turn to wash winter out of your home and garden
Meet the experts.
They’ll get your job done, but that’s not all.
Through Bay Weekly, you can turn to these experts for answers to your questions.
What do you want to know?
• What routine can you use to keep your house livable between major cleanings?
• How do you decide what to do with what when you’re downsizing?
• What should your first steps be in redesigning your yard after a major construction project, like the installation of a new well or septic system?
• How do you tell whether an old piece of furniture is an antique needing special treatment — or a piece you can repaint?
• Is this winter-damaged bush worth saving?
• How to make a family heirloom work in your home?
• Can your home, an old beach house, have central air conditioning?
Whatever you want to know, send me your questions and photos of possible. I’ll pass your questions along to the right expert for answers. I’ll send the advice to you and share it with Bay Weekly readers.

Bowie-Crofton Garden Club
Established in 1984, the Bowie-Crofton Garden Club promotes interest in and develops skills in gardening through cooperation, joint efforts and good fellowship. Our policy is to stimulate interest and share knowledge on gardening, and to serve the Bowie-Crofton area through community service projects that enhance the beauty of our environment.
To further these goals, Bowie-Crofton Garden Club holds a spring and a fall fundraising plant sale where the community can purchase nursery- and member-grown plants at competitive prices. Proceeds from these plant sales help us fund the BCGC Memorial Scholarship at University of Maryland College of Agricultural Sciences. Other local projects have included plantings at the Bowie Library, donations to the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry and school and scouting projects.
The club meets the last Tuesday of each month at the Kenhill Center, 2614 Kenhill Drive, in the multi-purpose room. Our meetings feature guest speakers who are well versed in subjects relating to gardens and gardening. We encourage visitors and potential new members.

Catalina Pool Builders
Catalina Pool Builders design, build and maintain beautiful in-ground concrete pools.
The process begins with our designers, who meet with you, listening to your ideas of what you want and need in a pool. Based on these ideas and the layout of your yard, the designers create a one-of-a-kind pool that will turn your backyard into a vacation oasis.
Catalina Pools offers a vast array of options, including — but not limited to — custom waterfalls, slides, grottos, salt systems and in-pool beverage areas.
The step-by-step process of constructing the pool is overseen by a superintendent from Catalina and is provided by contractors with many years of experience in their fields of expertise. Catalina Pools is one of the only contractors in Maryland that uses shotcrete instead of gunite for its interior shell because of its superior strength — which leads to a lifetime structural warranty for the shell.
Catalina Pools is extremely proud of the pools it creates and enjoys a great relationship with the homeowners with whom it has worked. Catalina Pools would welcome the opportunity to turn your backyard into your own personal relaxing oasis.
