Bay Reflection
Five Full, Fabulous Years of Fine, Fair News Coverage-
A Birthday Letter
from M.L. Faunce

The Atlanta Journal, a newspaper I used to read regularly had a slogan: "Covers Dixie Like the Dew." I thought about slogans when I learned that New Bay Times was celebrating its birthday - for five years now this Bay weekly has been serving communities on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake - and I thought maybe it was time that our newspaper had a slogan, too.

New Bay Times already has a mission. In case you've missed it, the message is worth reading about because it's about you:

It's a dream where people enjoy a high quality of life in a sustainable way that they'll be able to hand down for generations to come.

It's a dream of people who want more than dismal, doom-and-gloom news and mind-numbing entertainment. In a world bombarded with the sights and sounds of everything that's wrong in society, we are at risk of taking on the characteristics of those dark elements we see and hear.

New Bay Times' goal is to provide a quality alternative, to focus on the good in society, and to explore ways to improve our world.

We at New Bay Times invite you to join us. Together, we can make this dream a reality.

As I said, it's all about you - and us.

Mark Twain once explained why he became a newspaperman. "I hated to do it," he said, "but I couldn't find honest employment."

The hard working folks at New Bay Times have a sense of humor, so I know they'll forgive me for poking fun with that quote. But it does give me the opportunity to mention New Bay Times and to say how well, how straight and how committed it has been to its own ideals and to ours.

For five years now, this weekly has -

Thank you, New Bay Times. Congratulations on five full, fabulous years of fine, fair news coverage on Bay country and its people.

And now this, a new slogan:

New Bay Times: "Covers the Bay For You."
