Inspired by Marjory Stoneman Douglas

I enjoyed Louise Dunlap’s article in the March 22 issue about Marjory Stoneman Douglas. It’s inspiring that Douglas’ work (and Ms. Dunlap’s husband’s) has come full circle in the student’s activism on gun control. It particularly touched me that Douglas never gave up, even when the odds were bleak. It seems we face that scenario with the current debate over any kind of gun control.

Boy Scout for the Bay

I am a Boy Scout working on the requirements for the communications merit badge, which includes writing to the editor of a magazine or local newspaper giving my opinion or sharing information. I would like to take the opportunity to discuss with you an issue that is important to me.

I am writing to you about the Chesapeake Bay and that I am concerned about Bay pollution. I enjoy going out on the Bay with my dad on our boat crabbing and fishing. I think it is important for people my age to realize how important it is not to pollute the Chesapeake Bay and to do our part to keep the Bay clean for future generations.

I hope your magazine will continue to include articles about the importance of caring for the Bay. Thank you for your time and consideration.
