Celebrating London Town to the Tune of $25,000
Dear Bay Weekly:
On behalf of the London Town Foundation, thank you for contributing to our third annual benefit, Celebrating London Town. It was a successful and wonderful event, which would not have been possible without the donation of your auction item.
We received 88 silent auction and five live auction donations, providing a wide variety of wonderful items for bidding. The excellent food and beverages, provided by area caterers and beverage providers, made the evening a special and festive occasion. We are pleased to report that we raised almost $25,000.
All of the proceeds are being used to further the educational mission, operation and excellent programs of Historic London Town and Gardens.

The graduating class pictured in Jane Elkin’s April 29 story You Need a Gerund to Find Your Voice was misidentified. The 10 students are graduates of the ESL class in St. Mary’s Parish in downtown Annapolis. The photo was taken by Eneida Green, who is St. Mary’s ESL coordinator.

Clarification
Do strawberries ripen after picking?
No we wrote last week, based on information from Maryland Department of Agriculture.
Readers, including a strawberry grower who sells at farmers’ markets, have since called in to say it isn’t so.
We sought clarification. Here’s what we learned from University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service:
Strawberries will redden after picking, but they will not ripen in terms of flavor or texture. These delicate berries have a brief peak; softening thereafter is not ripening.
