SUMMARY:ArtWorks@7th Presents: Wings and Things
DESCRIPTION:For the month of June\, Artworks@7th will host a three-artist collaborative show\, Wings and Things\, representing the freedom to move\, and soar. \nDavy Strong\, an acrylic and oil artist\, loves to capture the local flora and fauna of southern Maryland. Her art explores the bayside\, the fields\, and the living creatures within those environments. “I’ve been working with images of the wildlife I find while walking on the beach or in my garden.” \nNico Gozal has a unique process. All of his works begin with a piece of silk and colored inks. Originally from Indonesia\, he has blended his culture’s crafts with his approach to the world around him. His winged creatures include penguins\, fish\, bees\, and geese in formation. \nThe third artist is Mary Gault\, both a 2-D and 3-D artist. For the show\, expect to see detailed wood sculptures and paintings of many local birds of all sizes\, such as blue herons\, flamingos\, egrets\, and other favorites. Her attention to detail is captivating. \nOur guest artist this month is Pamela Callen\, a past member of the gallery. Beautiful\, poignant\, or striking images she has seen around the world are the reason for her painting. It is her method of communicating on some basic\, universal level with viewers. She says the gift of gab is not her strong suit\, so it is the most meaningful way to share her observations of far-flung or local places\, people\, animals or nature.

DESCRIPTION:🎭AUDITIONS FOR TARTUFFE🎭\nAll roles are open and non-paying. Descriptions are of character appearance and temperament\, not age of actors. The show requires 7 men (possible doubling) and 5 women.\nAlthough Moliere wrote Tartuffe as a satire on religious hypocrisy in 17th century France\, and this production will be set in its proper time\, playmakers and audiences should have no trouble relating it to social tropes and characters of today. Diverse casting is welcome as a way to further enhance the current relevance of this classic. \nSynopsis:\nWealthy bourgeois M. Orgon has taken into his household Tartuffe\, an apparent religious zealot who has come on hard times. Actually an opportunist and swindler\, Tartuffe has gained substantial status in the eyes of Orgon and his mother\, Mme Pernell. Orgon has become so enamored\, he is tricked into handing over his property\, and is willing to give Tartuffe his daughter’s hand in marriage\, breaking her current engagement. Orgon’s son\, Damis\, his brother-in-law\, Cléante\, and his daughter’s maid\, Dorine\, all try unsuccessfully to get him to see the truth. SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture - The Despot's Heel
DESCRIPTION:“The Despot’s Heel” tells the story of the secession crisis in Maryland in the early days of the American Civil War. Both the state\, as well as the city of Baltimore\, experienced tensions caused by the divided loyalties of its citizens. These differences erupted into a riot in the streets when a pro-secession mob attacked U.S. troops passing through Baltimore on their way to Washington\, and the subsequent military occupation of the city by federal forces. News of the riot inspired James Ryder Randall\, a Marylander living in New Orleans\, to compose the song “Maryland\, My Maryland\,” as an appeal for his native state to join the Confederacy – the opening line “The despot’s heel is on thy shore” refers to the U.S. military presence in the state. Maryland\, however\, remained loyal to the Union throughout the war. This presentation will examine the political\, economic and military significance of the state in the spring of 1861 and afterward\, as well as the course it took in the conflict. \nRegistration required. Registration closes one half hour prior to lecture. This lecture will be recorded! \nCost: $15 per household for General Admission; $10 per household for HA Members\, Military\, and HA Docents
