SUMMARY:RiverFest- A Celebration of the St. Mary's River
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the St. Mary’s River at the 17th Annual RiverFest\, on Saturday\, September 23\, 2023. Festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, rain or shine\, at Historic St. Mary’s City. Don’t miss our feature performers\, The High and Wides\, a popular Maryland bluegrass band deemed “apostles of hillbilly boogie” by The Washington Post. Enjoy their live performance on the main stage from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Additional hourly live performances begin at 1:00 pm with the Chesapeake Public Charter School Choir\, Billy Breslin\, and Indian Summer.\nDiscover 101 ways to protect and enjoy our waterways. Try kayaking\, oyster tonging\, and fish seining with experienced experts. Visit exhibits about local flora and fauna. Come face‐to‐face with birds of prey\, snakes\, terrapins\, and other seldom‐seen neighbors. Join the ceremonial Wade-In at 2 p.m. The wade-in demonstrates how water quality is linked to the clarity of water. Please bring a change of clothes!\nExplore our river’s past with free admission to Historic St. Mary’s City Museum\, enjoy a tour on the Maryland Dove\, and connect to the River’s past through living history exhibits. The St. Maries Citty Militia will hold its annual muster in conjunction with RiverFest. Experience the sights\, sounds\, and smells of a 17th‐century militia assembly as citizen-soldier re‐enactors prepare to defend the colony against Virginians and pirates. Visit militia families carrying out everyday chores in camp. \nRiverFest is free\, open to the public\, and family-friendly. \nFor more info call 301‐395-5757 or visit http://www.SMRWA.org/riverfest.html .
