The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is hosting an open house and coffee chat for anyone interested in joining our community as an Education Volunteer. Meet our staff for a cup of coffee or tea\, take a short tour of SERC\, meet current volunteers\, and learn all about our education programs. \nWe’re looking for volunteers for:\n   -Teaching hands-on science outdoors\n   -Helping at the information desk of the Woodlawn Historic House\n   -Fish tank and aquarium helpers \nJoin us at the Reed Education Center on Tuesday\, September 5th from 10 – 11:30 am

DESCRIPTION:Dates: July 22nd & August 19th\nTimes: 9 am-12:30 pm\nAges: 13-17\nDescription: Teens often get asked what they want to be when they get older\, and it’s often hard to know without trying things out. In this session\, we’ll talk about careers in biological field sciences\, and what we do at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. Afterward\, participants will get to put on chest waders and go into the water to sample fish biodiversity and visit the dock to look at oyster reef organisms and learn how our scientists sample biodiversity.\nCost: Free\, limited to 12 participants\, teens must be accompanied by an adult.\nTo Register: Email SERCOutreach@si.edu
