SUMMARY:Putting It Together
DESCRIPTION:Putting It Together – A Sondheim Revue\nDrawing its title from a song in Sunday in the Park with George\, this musical revue celebrates Sondheim’s incomparable career in musical theater. Featuring nearly thirty Sondheim tunes\, Putting It Together is set at an all-night\, black-tie party in a penthouse\, the hosts\, an older couple face their disillusions and marital troubles; a younger\, less jaundiced couple struggle with their feelings and desires\, and a commentator oversees and influences the action. The spouses deal with infidelity and divorce but finally reconcile before dawn. With a bit of imagination\, the guests transform the apartment into the stage of an abandoned theater\, an estate in Sweden\, an island outside of Paris\, a street off the Forum\, the woods of a fairy tale and a mythical town in the Southwest. \nNote: All single tickets are subject to a $2 service fee per ticket.

SUMMARY:Annapolis Science Cafe @ 49 West: “Trials and Tribulations in Battling Invasive Fishes”\, by Joseph Love\, Ph.D.\, Program Manager\, Freshwater Fisheries Program\, MD Dep't of Natural Resources
DESCRIPTION:Invasive fishes of Chesapeake Bay watershed have presented resource managers and the general public challenges for nearly two decades\, with some met with success. When introduced to the Chesapeake Bay watershed\, invasive catfishes (blue catfish and flathead catfish) were considered primarily beneficial targets for recreational anglers. That attitude has changed\, though\, as each species has expanded their range in the watershed\, with blue catfish becoming far more abundant and widespread than flathead catfish\, but both posing significant threats. These species were joined by a new invasive fish in the early 2000’s when northern snakeheads were discovered in tidal freshwater of Potomac River. Please join us to hear Dr. Love describe how the state is dealing with these invasives. We hope you will come in person\, but zoom info is available too; if interested in zoom or other questions\, email annapoliscafesci@gmail.com . You may reserve seats for this event\nat 49 West Coffeehouse\, Winebar & Gallery by calling 410-626-9796.

SUMMARY:State of the Rivers: Choptank\, Miles\, Wye & Eastern Bay
DESCRIPTION:ShoreRivers is pleased to announce the return of its highly anticipated State of the Rivers events—a series of free presentations held each spring to inform public about the current state of our Eastern Shore waterways. \nEach year\, between April—October\, ShoreRivers’ professional Riverkeepers conduct weekly tidal sampling of more than 60 sites from Cecilton to Cambridge\, then test for multiple scientific water quality parameters including dissolved oxygen\, nutrient pollution\, algae\, and clarity. These indicators reveal the overall health of our waterways and our progress toward protecting and restoring our local rivers. ShoreRivers\, statewide groups\, and national agencies use this information to track trends\, develop remediation strategies\, advocate for stronger laws and enforcement\, alert the public of potential health risks\, and inform region-wide efforts toward clean water goals. \nThe public is invited to learn more about the results of this testing\, with a focus on the Choptank River\, Miles and Wye rivers\, and Eastern Bay\, at this State of the Rivers presentation\, hosted by Choptank Riverkeeper Matt Pluta and your new Miles-Wye Riverkeeper. Light refreshments\, including local oysters\, will be served. \nDoors open at 5:30pm for a reception of wine\, beer\, and light appetizers. The formal presentations will begin at 6pm. This event is free—no registration needed!

SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture - Native Expulsion and Manifest Destiny
DESCRIPTION:This virtual lecture explores westward expansion and its impact upon Native communities. Even though the phrase ‘manifest destiny’ was not used in print until 1845\, the spirit of American expansionism that it referred to was very apparent long before the 1840s. Americans had been talking about pushing westward as if it was their manifest destiny ever since folks in Jamestown in the 1600s had started eyeing the land that Natives were settled on. University of Maryland historian Richard Bell will begin by tracking the story of Native expulsion and westward expansion from the Revolution era up through the 1850s\, paying particular attention in the second half to the ways in which the West and Westward Expansion came to be romanticized in the American imagination. \nAdvance registration required; registration closes one half hour prior to lecture. The lecture will be recorded.

SUMMARY:Profs & Pints Annapolis: Aboard the Webb Space Telescope
DESCRIPTION:Profs and Pints Annapolis presents: “Aboard the Webb Space Telescope\,” a NASA astrophysicist’s guide to the design\, mission\, and early discoveries of a pioneering space instrument\, with Matthew Greenhouse\, project scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope’s instrument payload. Many of us have been spellbound by the images produced by the James Webb Space Telescope since its launch into space in December 2021. The largest space telescope ever constructed\, it’s capable of peering through both space and time to observe how galaxies\, stars\, and planetary systems evolved over cosmic time. It also will search exoplanets’ atmospheres for evidence of life. Profs and Pints is offering you a chance to learn in depth about the Webb mission from an insider: Matthew Greenhouse of the Goddard Space Flight Center’s Laboratory for Observational Cosmology. He has been involved in the Webb mission as a senior staff member since 1997\, and he specializes in demystifying the Webb mission for public audiences.\nprofsandpints.ticketleap.com
