SUMMARY:Alternative Christmas Market
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, NOV. 12 10-2 & SUNDAY\, NOV. 13 10-2\nAn Alternative Christmas Market is coming to Davidsonville United Methodist Church again this year.  Shoppers may buy unique gifts AND help women in less developed countries.  The United Methodist Women are sponsoring the sale which has items from Ten Thousand Villages\, a fair trade organization.  The organization buys the items at a fair price\, then markets them in the United States.  There will be an amazing range of items including toys\, scarves\, placemats\, jewelry\, various baskets\, scented soaps\, stationery sets\, and different olive wood items.  Christmas ornaments will be available. \nBuying goods from a Ten Thousand Villages pop up shop directly helps people with little access to other ways to earn income.  Ten Thousand Villages will also donate a percentage of the proceeds to the UMW for hosting the event – these funds will be donated to a local shelter for battered women.

SUMMARY:An Evening of Revolutionary Music with Bedlam Colonial Music
DESCRIPTION:Honor and celebrate Veteran’s Day with a patriotic musical tribute. Join Historic Annapolis for a return engagement of the musical group\, Bedlam\, at O’Brien’s Oyster Bar and Seafood Restaurant. \nDrawing largely from the group’s repertoire of 18th and 19th century music of early America\, the performers use their voices\, recorders\, guitars\, drums\, and hammer dulcimer to explore a variety of themes relevant to war and its effects on communities. \nAmong the varied musical styles and settings will be upbeat songs to lift morale\, ballads commemorating heroes and battles\, and songs to memorialize the fallen young soldiers. For example\, the ballad\, “The Death of General Wolf”\, chronicles the historic battle of Quebec that was fought between the French and British armies on the Plains of Abraham outside the city walls. You will also hear marching tunes like “Yankee Doodle” and “The British Grenadiers” and recruiting songs like “Over The Hills And Far Away”\, that stir the soul of the listener\, as much now as in former times when they called young men to war. General George Washington will be remembered in two very different songs – a tavern song called “A Toast to General Washington”\, and a hauntingly beautiful ode called “Lady Washington”\, which tells of Martha’s search for her husband in the confusion and chaos at the end of a battle. \nJoin us for this special musical tribute to America’s earliest Veterans. \nColonial garb is welcome\, and program admission includes light table snacks. An optional dinner add-on is available\, click here for the menu. \nRegistration required. Seating is available at tables for four (4); patrons will be assigned to a table. To reserve a single table of four\, please purchase your tickets under one order. For table groups larger than four\, please contact Janet Hall at janet.hall@annapolis.org. \nPlease note\, this program will take place on the second floor and requires ascending a flight of stairs. \nCost: $30 per person\, General Admission; $25 per person for Veterans\, HA Members and HA Docents. Optional dinner add-on available for $30 per person; cash bar will be available. \nAges 21 and up only.

SUMMARY:Annapolis Veteran’s Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION: Veteran’s Day Ceremony to be Held at Memorial Circle                                                                                                                                                   \nIn downtown\, at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11th\, there will be a short parade around Memorial Circle\, then a ceremony at City Dock with Fleet Reserve Club\, the United States Naval Academy\, the Annapolis High ROTC\, Annapolis Coast Guard and other dignitaries. After the event\, veterans and members of the Fleet Reserve Club are invited to lunch and a resource display at the Fleet Reserve Club.  \nIt was at 11 a.m. on November 11\, 1918 when the fighting of World War I came to an end. The conclusion of the “War to End All Wars” became a universally recognized day of celebration. Initially\, it was called Armistice Day and only honored veterans of WWI. In 1954\, World War II and Korean War veterans were added as honorees and the 11-11 date became a day set aside to honor all veterans who served America in wartime. \nMayor Gavin Buckley asks all City residents to set aside time on 11-11 to reflect on the sacrifices of United States Servicemen and Servicewomen who put themselves in harm’s way\, far from their friends and family\, in service to our nation.  \n
