But without actors Henry Condell and John Heminges\, we would have lost half of Shakespeare’s plays forever! So\, the King’s Men are getting the band back together. The goal: to gather the Bard’s scattered masterpieces and bind them to each other\, and to history. It’s a grand feat\, to be sure. Especially for a community of actors who may know all the ins and outs of iambic pentameter\, but next to nothing about binding books. Even so\, they undertake their mission with pluck and wit and hearts full of joy. It’s a theatrical\, beat-the-clock race to save a legacy\, offering some of Shakespeare’s greatest hits spoken by your favorite players. \nLive stream will be available from 3/10-3/19.\nNo matinee performance on 3/5 due to the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

In this 4 session workshop we will get an introduction to musical instruments that have been made across Central and South America for thousands of years and learn to build our own clay flutes using ancient pottery-making techniques. SUMMARY:Emojis for the Chesapeake: Empowering Youth Voices
DESCRIPTION:We invite students in grades 3-5 to participate in our heritage-related arts program! Learn about our evolving relationships to the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on learning and discussion sessions; to contemplate our relationship to the Bay; and to express this relationship though art. This is a great experience for scout troops\, home-school families\, and anyone interested in nature or art. \nThe artwork will be on display at Captain Avery Museum the months of April and May. On Sunday\, April 2\, from 1 to 4 pm\, Captain Avery will host an art reception for the student artists. The public is invited to enjoy the reception and experience the same demonstrations. \nThe learning sessions take place on Saturday and the art production session will be on Sunday. (Kids are expected to attend both days.) They will learn from local historians\, watermen\, ecologists\, stewards\, artists\, and each other! Snacks will be provided. Transportation is not provided and must be arranged independently. High school students and adult volunteers can sign up to assist the children by emailing admin@captainaverymuseum.org. This program is funded by Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area.

DESCRIPTION:“Captain Thomas Watkins\, Civil War soldier from Davidsonville” This talk is about Thomas Watkins\, a local Davidsonville boy\, who joins the Union army in 1861 at the beginning of the Civil War. The story is about his military career and how he was murdered in his home in Davidsonville fifteen days before the war ended.\nThe story also contains much local Davidsonville and Anne Arundel County history during the time of the Civil War. Topics include: names of Davidsonville soldiers\, where some are buried\, slaverys’ impact in Anne Arundel County\, and even an example of brother against brother right here in Davidsonville. Finally\, I will be talking about how this story was connected to my family.

SUMMARY:Emojis for the Chesapeake: Empowering Youth Voices
DESCRIPTION:We invite students in grades 3-5 to participate in our heritage-related arts program! Learn about our evolving relationships to the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on learning and discussion sessions; to contemplate our relationship to the Bay; and to express this relationship though art. This is a great experience for scout troops\, home-school families\, and anyone interested in nature or art. \nThe artwork will be on display at Captain Avery Museum the months of April and May. On Sunday\, April 2\, from 1 to 4 pm\, Captain Avery will host an art reception for the student artists. The public is invited to enjoy the reception and experience the same demonstrations. \nThe learning sessions take place on Saturday and the art production session will be on Sunday. (Kids are expected to attend both days.) They will learn from local historians\, watermen\, ecologists\, stewards\, artists\, and each other! Snacks will be provided. Transportation is not provided and must be arranged independently. High school students and adult volunteers can sign up to assist the children by emailing admin@captainaverymuseum.org. This program is funded by Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area.

Especially for a community of actors who may know all the ins and outs of iambic pentameter\, but next to nothing about binding books. Even so\, they undertake their mission with pluck and wit and hearts full of joy. DESCRIPTION:Profs and Pints Annapolis presents: “Those Who Left Ireland\,” a look at what drove the Irish diaspora and at the destinies of the Emerald Isle’s emigrants\, with Matthew Dziennik\, associate professor of History at the United States Naval Academy and scholar of the British Empire. \nThe story of Irish immigration to the United States often gets told through the horrific accounts of the two million people who left Ireland during the potato famine of the 1840s and 1850s. What is less well remembered is that for more than 200 years before that period emigration had already been a common feature of life in Ireland. \nGain a deeper understanding of the long history of Irish emigration with Associate Professor Matthew Dziennik\, an historian who teaches British and Irish history at the United States Naval Academy and who has published on the role of Irishmen in the American and French Revolutions. \nWe will follow in the footsteps of the political prisoners\, soldiers\, merchants\, weavers\, and peasants who took flight to all parts of the globe\, including Europe\, North America\, Asia\, and Australasia in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. You will learn about the history of Ireland in this period and how emigration was both a voluntary and involuntary response to the conditions of the time. \nYou’ll also hear about the complex lives of Irish immigrants. Some ventured forth to escape British rule and fought against the crown in the armies of Louis XIV\, George Washington\, and Napoleon Bonaparte. Others served the British Empire and helped make it a global empire. Some did both. The Ireland of this period was a complicated place that defies easy explanations. \nAt the end\, we will explore what emigration before the potato famine says about Ireland and Irish history and how the story of Irish emigration is essential to understanding the nation’s present. Irish migration is the story of harsh economic realities\, new opportunities\, and a population caught in the midst of seismic change.
