SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture - Let It Begin Here: The Battle of Lexington and Concord
DESCRIPTION:Historian Dr. Glenn F. Williams addresses the events that led to\, and the outbreak of\, the armed conflict known as the Revolutionary War. Starting with resistance to British colonial policies that Americans perceived as arbitrary and violations of their liberty\, and efforts to seek a redress of grievances\, the Colony of Massachusetts Bay was declared to be in a state of rebellion by the British government. As a provisional shadow government prepared for a potential war against the British military occupation\, Lieutenant General Thomas Gage\, commander in chief of his Majesty’s forces in North America and royal governor of Massachusetts\, sent an expedition to destroy or confiscate arms\, ammunition and military stores\, and possibly capture patriot leaders\, at Concord. On the morning of April 19\, 1775\, an encounter between American militia and British regulars on the village green in Lexington ignited what became the War for American Independence and led to the creation of the U.S. Army. \nRegistration required. Registration closes one half hour prior to lecture. \nCost: $15 per household for General Admission; $10 per household for HA Members\, Military\, and HA Docents

SUMMARY:Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
DESCRIPTION:AACC Theatre returns with “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” opening April 14 at the Robert E. Kauffman Theater\, Pascal Center for the Performing Arts. “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc. This compelling tragicomedy first burst upon the theatre scene in 1966 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The play follows the misadventures of two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet\, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Childhood friends of Prince Hamlet\, they are brought to the royal court to find out whether Hamlet is truly mad or not. \nThis post-pandemic production about frustrated waiting\, feeling like a supporting character in someone else’s story\, chance vs. fate\, inescapability\, and general confusion is very timely in its message. With slapstick to sitcom to subtle word games peppered throughout an absurd and thought-provoking romp\, “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” explores what our existence\, desires\, and actions say about ourselves. \nDirected by Madeline Austin\, the cast of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead includes Erik Binnix\, Jackson Bondurant\, Ryan Brown\, Dean Cottrill\, Jackson Darrow\, Gabe Duque\, Josh F.\, Nathan Garcia\, Eliza Geib\, Mycheal Lewis\, Shannon McElwee\, Jana Naylor\, Abigail Pimpo\, Alice Resare\, Zachary Sexton\, Neal Spence\, Daniel Wade\, Cameron Walker\, and Robin Whewell. Design team for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead includes Sean Urbantke (Set and Lighting Designer)\, Maggie Urban (Stage Manager/Fight Choreographer)\, Michelle Hickman (Costume Designer)\, Steph Condon (Sound Designer)\, Mandolin Roberts (Props Artisan) and Katie Laubert (Assistant Stage Manager). \nTICKET INFORMATION: “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” runs April 14-April 23 at the Robert E. Kauffman Theater\, Pascal Center for Performing Arts\, 101 College Parkway\, Arnold\, MD. Performances are Friday through Saturday at 8 pm; Sunday matinees at 2pm. Tickets: General Admission: $15; AACC Staff/Faculty\, Seniors\, Military $10; AACC/AACPS Students with Valid ID $5.00.
