For the Oysters, Thanks for the 'Clams'

Dear New Bay Times~Weekly:

I want to thank you once again for the wonderful show of support that you provided the Oyster Recovery Partnership with the Birthday Bivalve Bash on Sunday. The crowd was a wonderful mix of old and young, all of whom cared about "their Bay."

Congratulations again for five years of service to the region. As a life-long resident of Calvert County, I think I've read every issue in that five-year span. I have always enjoyed your take on the news.

-Bob Pfeiffer, Director,

Oyster Recovery Partnership

Editor's note: New Bay Times' Birthday Bivalve Bash was dedicated to the Oyster Recovery Partnership, and Bay friends pitched in mightily, as you'll read in this week's "Dock of the Bay," contributing goods, time and services; donating, cooking and serving food; playing music; offering free massages. Auction, 50/50 raffle and gifts raised $6,500 for the Oyster Recovery Partnership.

Help Put Kevin's Name in Record Book

Dear New Bay Times~Weekly:

The Kevin E. Reichardt Foundation invites male lacrosse players from around the state to join in a record-making event: All Lacrosse the Ages will make a Guinness World Record claim for "Most Players in a Lacrosse Game." The Annapolis Jaycees will organize the documentation to submit our claim.

Male lacrosse players of all ages are urged to register to play in our 12-hour game on Sat., June 13 at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold. The public is invited to cheer on our players and attend free sports education classes conducted throughout the day by U.S. team members and former All-American Lacrosse players.

St. Mary's Sports Association volunteers will prepare and sell foods, donating their day's proceeds to Kevin Reichardt's Scholar-Athlete Championship Fund. All funds raised are used to issue scholarships each year. Our 1998 scholarship recipients will be announced during our All Lacrosse the Ages closing ceremony at 9:30pm.

For more information on this record-making fund-raiser, call The Kevin E. Reichardt Foundation at 410/741-0381 or 800/515-8752.

-Shelly Collinsworth, Executive Director, The Kevin E. Reichardt Foundation

Poetry Appreciated

Dear New Bay Times~Weekly:

I enjoyed your article on Maryland poet laureate Roland Flint [April 16-22] and am reminded of a quote from Jack Kerouac: "But it ain't whatcha' write, it's the way atcha' you write it."

-Betty Becke, Fairhaven
