Snapping More than Selfies

Young people today know their way around a smartphone camera. But do they know how to handle the real deal? The Deale Elks Lodge and Muddy Creek Artists Guild are looking for teens and tweens (grades five thru eight) to join the 3rd annual Elkie Artists three-day photography camp to learn the ropes of photography beyond the selfie.

No experience is necessary and all the supplies — including a camera — are provided. Photographers must commit to attending three dates when experienced shooters will team with students for photo shoots around Deale searching for colors, textures, perspectives and inspiration. Students learn how to compose a photo, use photo software and printers and frame their pictures for exhibition.

Elkie Artists meet Sundays Nov. 10 & 17 (10am-4pm) and then present their works at the final show exhibition Dec. 1 (1-4pm).

Lunch and snacks are provided, too. Space is limited to 18 students. Supplies and expenses are covered by the Elks International Beacon Grant and the Deale Elks Lodge #2528.

Apply by Oct. 5: 443-221-9283 or [email protected].
