Time to get your E-ZPass

If you’ve been waiting to get on the E-ZPass train, it’s time to get with the program before you are stuck paying more at the Bay Bridge.

With all-electronic tolling coming to the bridge this summer, cash will no longer be accepted and traveling over the bridge without a pass could result in pricier video tolls or even fines.

At a series of local events hosted by the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) E-ZPass Maryland Outreach Team, you can learn more about all-electronic tolling and what it means for drivers, then get your hands on a free transponder.

Pre-loaded $25 E-ZPass “On the Go” transponders will also be available for purchase with a credit or debit card.

Using E-ZPass can save you money, too. Commuters with an E-ZPass discount plan pay as little as $1.40 daily to cross the bridge, compared to $6 for video tolling. Transponders are free and there is no monthly fee for Maryland residents.

Customers can use cash or credit card to open an account at MDTA toll facilities, at many state Motor Vehicle Administration locations and at retail partners.

All-electronic tolling means less idling time, which leads to better fuel efficiency and reduced vehicle emissions, decreased congestion, increased driver safety and a safer work environment for employees.
