New Horizons Exhibit • free

Potter Ray Bogle and painters Abbey Griffin and Mimi Little challenge the traditional individualistic visions of artists, collaborating to create art for CalvART Gallery’s New Horizon exhibit. Worth the Trip for Jazz

Put some swing into your seafood consumption at the Potomac Jazz and Seafood Festival. St. Margaret’s Church Joust

See Maryland’s state sport at a day-long festival. Novice knights — children and beginning riders — take a lesson in lancing skills (11am). At noon, expert jousters parade on their noble steeds before entering the ring for the main competition. Commoners can buy a title by rsvping to the jousting committee.

Sharkfest

Avoid the bite of the Megalodon or pose in front of its fossilized jaws. Study fossils from Calvert Cliffs and bring your own beachcombing treasures for experts to identify. Find a 20-million-year-old shark’s tooth in the Discovery Room. Stop by SharkFact stations thruout the museum for tidbits on shark lives and habitats. See just how powerful a shark is at the Shark Frenzy Film Fest. Step into the Shark Cage, used by underwater photographers to capture sharks in their habitat. Pose for a picture in the cage and see the photos taken from it.

KIDS Fairies in the Woods

Learn how fairies use nature to build, camouflage and protect their homes. Dress for a hike. 2-3pm at Rosaryville State Park, Upper Marlboro. $3; rsvp: 301-888-1377.

Tour Thomas Point
