Our Waterkeepers, Our Champions

Dear Bay Weekly:

Great editorial [Dec. 17, 2009: Christmas Cookies: This week we feed your thought with waterkeepers and others whose calling is doing good]. Keep up the pressure on all polluters who feel that they are somehow entitled to use our national treasure as their personal toilet bowls.

You may want to guess as to why the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Will Baker didn’t care to partner with our waterkeepers and lend the weight of their 200,000 members’ voices to those of our riverkeepers.

P.S. Suggest to all your readers to get a copy of Howard Ernst’s new book, Fight for the Bay, and look at pages 12, 36, 87 and 100 regarding Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s failure to clean up the Bay in 30 years.

Happy Ending for Hazell’s 2009 Gingerbread House

Dear Bay Weekly:

I want to thank you for having Diana Beechener take the time to interview me and write such a wonderful story about my gingerbread [Baking Her Dreams: Dec. 3, 2009]. She did a superb job. I was floored when my husband called me at work to tell me that me and my gingerbread house made it to the front cover! What a nice surprise. I also wanted to let you know I ended up winning the viewers’ choice award.

Again, thank you for your time and thoughtfulness. The best to your wonderful newspaper!

–Ami Hazell, Lothian

It’s Good to Be the Best

Dear Bay Weekly:

I’m thrilled at how Bay Weekly and writer Margaret Tearman captured the spirit of our store, Then & Again Antiques, in your Best of the Bay Issue [Dec. 31]. I’m also happy to report that three separate groups of shoppers visited for the first time over of the first weekend of the year, after they read about us as Best Antique Store on the Bay, to see what they were missing.

Dear Bay Weekly:

People are saying they’re coming in for the first time to check us out because they saw the Best of the Bay article reporting on your readers’ selection of My Butcher and More as the Best Butcher and Deli.
