Annapolis Musicians to Invest $4K in Kids
For Annapolis musicians, gigging is only part of the job. Another big part is looking out for one another.
“It’s a capricious business,” says Matt McConville, the singer-guitarist-songwriter who founded Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians to fill the gaps. Last year, the self-funded nonprofit donated $60,000 to sustaining and supporting a new generation of musicians.
The Fund is now accepting applications for a grant of $4,000 to an organization in the greater Annapolis area whose summer music program benefits underserved students.
The five-year-old fund now makes that grant in the name of Annapolis musician David Glaser, who died last June.
AMFM also offers the Tim King Scholarship, a $5,000 award helping a high school senior to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music performance. Music instruction at Bates Middle School, a performing arts magnet school, is another outreach.
