Calvert Gets a New Park

A new Calvert County park will be designed by local outdoor enthusiasts.

The existing 79-acre Cove Point Park includes a water park, baseball and multi-purpose sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, walking and jogging paths and a picnic area.

The expansion across Route 2/4 will add another 100 acres. What to do with it is up to local residents. In a 15-question survey, you’ll get to vote for an ice skating rink, amphitheater, disc golf course, mountain bike trails, outdoor volleyball courts or a large field for sport tournaments.

You’ll also get to suggest a name for the new park based on historic reference, location, topography or nearby flora and fauna.

Finally, you’ll register your likes and dislikes of the current Cove Point Park and share your favorite activity in the park.

The property, located on the West side of Route 2/4, was cleared by Dominion Cove Point to support the plant’s transition from import to export of liquefied natural gas. As well as the land, Dominion has donated $4.1 million to create the park.
