“Of course I know about Earth Day!
I just started my garden. I’m growing strawberries, zucchini, squash and mammoth sunflowers. You should’ve seen those sunflowers last year. They were huge — taller than me.
I love all nature. I’m the president of the Biology and Environmental Science Club here at Anne Arundel Community College. I am conducting research with Professor Susan Lamont to protect vernal pools where amphibians lay their eggs. In them we’ve found lots of species, including wood frogs, fingernail clams and spotted salamanders. A plan to expand the B&A bike trail would have cut through the vernal pools that are homes to these endangered species. But through working with the Department of Natural Resources, we are making sure the expansion goes around these very sensitive areas, saving the local amphibian habitats.
I think every day should be Earth Day.”
