Welcome spring with a little directed indoor pruning that eases your load and benefits two good causes.
Start with books. Books on the Bay — wildlife, climate, ecology, and other natural treasures — are sought by the Chesapeake Conservancy to fill the shelves of Ben Franklin High School in Baltimore.
“The goal is to encourage students in Baltimore City to experience the Chesapeake Bay watershed while also exposing them to career options in environmental science and environmental studies,” said Mamie Parker. The Conservancy board member has lent her name to the larger Inspiring Youth to Embrace the Chesapeake speaker series.
Bring Bay books that teens would enjoy to the Conservancy Table during Maryland Day festivities on March 21 in West Annapolis at 106 Annapolis Street. Or throughout March, bring your books during working hours to the Chesapeake Conservancy office in West Annapolis at 716 Giddings Avenue.
Move onto shoes. Here the good cause is WNAV Radio’s Barbara Smith-Cox Memorial Shoe Drive, in memory of the station’s shoe-loving, high-energy news director. Barbara died at 55 last November, in apparent good health, five days after completing the Across the Bay 10K Bridge Race.
Donate new and gently used women’s and men’s shoes of all types to support the Light House, a homeless prevention support center in Annapolis. Throughout March, drop them off at Annapolis City Hall, City Dock Market House, WNAV Radio, K&B True Value Hardware.
