Dogs and Humans Walk for the Animals, SPCA
Thousands of humans and their canine companions hit the trails at Quiet Waters Park Sunday for the 26th annual Anne Arundel County SPCA’s Walk for the Animals. The unseasonably warm weekend made for some thirsty pups and their people. But that didn’t stop them from joining the 5K run and walk.
The fur was flying all morning as dogs – both large and small, fluffy and fuzzy – strutted their stuff along the park paths. Bay Weekly’s pet-loving staff was happy to lend a hand in support of the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the county.
Over 80 exhibitors and merchants lined park roads with offerings of doggie and human treats, info on breed- and age-specific rescue groups and plenty of furry friends looking for a new home.
Not to be outdone by the canines, the Kitty Karavan offered a break from the humidity inside an air-conditioned RV – full of cats.
Plenty of animals were busy working the event, proving that not all dogs are lap dogs. Working dogs and their human supporters provided info on groups such as Pets on Wheels. Annapolis Police K-9 units gave demonstrations and McGruff the Crime Dog posed for photos.
Quiet Waters goes to the dogs again for the SPCA Puppy Plunge later this summer.
