An evening of Indonesian music will be presented in the Zoom Webinar “Distant Roots, Local Flowers: New Music for Gamelan in America”. Jody Diamond, director and founder of the American Gamelan Institute, will discuss the rise of nearly 200 gamelan ensembles in the United States that feature this traditional Indonesian music. Ms. Diamond, a teacher at the State University of New York at New Paltz, is a composer, performer and scholar who is known for her research in contemporary music written for gamelan.
The live Zoom will include an introduction by the Indonesian Embassy, a performance of gamelan and followed by questions and answers.
