Annapolis Science Cafe @ 49 West, “Mangroves: Superheroes of our Coastal Ocean”, by Hannah Morrissette, Ph.D., SERC
January 26, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
FreeThis is free science talk titled, “Mangroves: Superheroes of our Coastal Ocean”, will be presented by Hannah Morrissette, Ph.D., Coastal Wetland Biogeochemist, at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC). The event is hosted by the Annapolis Cafe Scientifique at 49 West Coffeehouse, Winebar & Gallery.
About the Talk: Mangroves, or the forests of the sea, are important environments for coastlines around the world. Their distinctive ability to survive in salty, coastal water leads to a long list of irreplaceable ecosystem benefits. Mangroves stabilize the coast and protect it from storms, provide food and habitat for fish, and pull carbon dioxide out of the air to store it long-term. Please join Dr. Morrissette for a presentation on her most exciting coastal research (and her best photos!) to learn more about these mighty ecosystems: what they do for us and what we can do for them.
About the Speaker: Dr. Hannah Morrissette is an environmental researcher dedicated to investigating the uniqueness of coastal wetlands, with years of experience in mangrove, marsh, and seagrass conservation and restoration. RESERVE AT SEAT FOR THE TALK BY CALLING 49 WEST AT 410-626-9796.
