Campfire Chat: Native History Along the Patuxent
October 21, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
$5Join us for a night at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary and journey back in time to learn about Maryland Indian life along the Patuxent River. Considered a hotbed of Native American activity, archaeological studies at Jug Bay have identified nearly 25 sites spanning at least 12,000 years of Native inhabitation or nearly the entire length of human existence in Maryland. Rico Newman, Member of the Choptico Band of Indians, and Stephanie Sperling, M.A.A., Senior Archaeologist in Prince George’s County, will be the guides for an evening glimpse into the past under the Jug Bay stars. Bring a portable camp chair and share s’mores and stories by the fire, or sit back, relax, and enjoy the evening. A $5.00 registration fee covers program costs. S’mores supplies will be provided. In the event of rain the program will be held inside the visitor center.
