Discussion on Jungian Archetype in Film and Novels With filmmaker, writer, and producer Julia Vickers
September 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$5Why do we forget some films and novels as soon as they are done, but others stay with us a lifetime? Writer, filmmaker, and producer Julia Vickers will show Part 1 of her documentary, Jungian Archetype in Film, followed by a discussion and Q&A session.
“It’s alive!” proclaimed Dr. Frankenstein in the 1930 classic film. Based on the novel written by Mary Shelly, Frankenstein has become one of the most iconic images in film. Why does this story continue to be so powerful 90 years after the film was made and over 200 years after the book was written? Jungian Archetype in Film, a documentary from film producer and writer Julia Vickers, posits the archetypal image as the seemingly magic part of all enduring works of art. It is the part which is a surprise to both writer and reader, filmmaker and film watcher. And yet, at the same time, it is deeply familiar—as if someone has looked inside our soul. Archetype is “alive” within us.
Jungian Archetype in Film is the first independent film from producer/writer/film editor Julia Vickers. It is a thirty-minute documentary—part one of a series exploring film from a Jungian perspective. It recently won the Best Editor award from Toronto International Women’s Film Festival 2021 and was a semi-finalist for Best Documentary (short form) in the San Francisco Indie Short Festival 2021.
