Hogshead Living History: Libraries and Lotteries, 1773

August 12, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

Explore the history of libraries and lotteries at Hogshead! Learn what libraries were like in colonial Annapolis as we bring to life Annapolis’s first “public” library. Meet a colonial businesswoman, try reading original 18th century books, and discover popular titles of the colonial era that our libraries still carry today!

Infrastructure has always been in the news! How did colonial Marylanders fund projects like roads? Come learn about the roles that lotteries played in colonial American life, from improving roads to funding the American Revolution itself. Participants have a chance to win a small prize in our “lottery” drawings at 11 am and 1 pm!
