This week, Rotarian Linda Martinak will discuss the history and development of Martinak State Park. It began when Linda’s great uncle, George Martinak returned from WWI in France, and worked in D.C. as a government printer. Mr. Martinak’s true love was the environment, especially fishing, and he began to buy small parcels of land beginning in 1928, eventually accumulating 100 wooded acres in Denton, MD on the banks of the Choptank River. He wanted to share the property with his family and also the public so that all could enjoy the beauty and bounty of his “Lupine Lodge,” later named Martinak State Park. The presentation will focus on the history of the land and water and the generosity of Mr. Martinak through his gift to the State of Maryland.
