STEAM Into Native Cultures: Home School Day

November 17, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

$5

Choose your session: 10-11:30am or 1-2:30pm. Both sessions include all activities listed in description.
Celebrate Indigenous Heritage Month and STEAM Month at the same time! Come to Montpelier House Museum to learn how Indigenous cultures combine math and fractions with stories and life lessons.
4-8 year olds will create paper medicine wheels by playing with parts of a whole (aka fractions), and learn about this symbol used by many Native American cultures to honor nature, seasons and life itself.
Older kids (ages 9-15) will learn about the math incorporated in the Lakota Moon calendar, depicted on a turtle’s shell, and the cultural symbolism of turtles in many Native American cultures. They will also craft their own turtle to take home. For more STEAM fun, they can try their hand at felt making.

Call 301-377-7817 to reserve your spot. Space is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
