Theresa Sise & Sweet Tea Perform Moondance in Eastport
July 20, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$25 – $35Dickson Mercer of the News Post in Frederick describes her “lush voice that sounds bred for jazz.”
Annapolis Jazz & Roots invites music lovers to celebrate the anniversary of the Apollo space mission that took three American astronauts to the moon in 1969! Hear music associated with that epic voyage from the styles of pop, rock and jazz. Tap your toes or get up and dance to delightful tunes such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” composed by Bart Howard in 1954. Frank Sinatra’s swinging version became synonymous with NASA’s space program and was played on the Apollo 10’s orbit of the moon and Apollo 11’s lunar landing. Groove to “Everyday People,” written by Sly & The Family Stone in 1963. (Peggy Lee’s version was played on Apollo 11.) The evening would not be complete without Van Morrison’s timeless “Moondance” and beloved chestnuts like “Paper Moon,” written in 1939 and “Old Devil Moon,” written for Lena Horne in 1947.
The show features some of the region’s hottest musicians. Pianist Darius Scott, drummer Nick Costa, and bassist Mike Graham, Jr. will accompany jazz vocalist Theresa Sise who has a solid history of sold out shows performing with big bands and her own group, Sweet Tea.
The event is a fundraiser for the Annapolis Jazz & Roots Festival begun in 2022. It is held at multiple locations in Eastport in the first two weekends of November. International and regional artists from many countries and cultures perform in free and ticketed events for adults and families. Refreshments will be sold at the July fundraising concert. There will be seating for listeners adjacent to the dance floor. The event is suitable for adults and teens. Admission is is $25 in advance and $35 at the door. It is free to teens 17 and under.
