The Great Hall of an old Lord of the castle. The stage is set in live greenery, a tree, etc. Many candles, rich fabrics decorate stage, entrance and reception room. This production will celebrate the traditional music, songs, dance and ritual that have been passed down through time all around the world on the night in which the three Magi visited the Christ child.
Our Revels show will feature the ancient sacred and secular tunes dating from the 13th to 17th centuries. Poetry and prose will be taken from excerpts by William Shakespeare and other Old World sources. The story of the Christ Child will be related in the manner of a folktale tradition rather than read as scripture.
Processionals and rituals are part of a traditional Christmas Revels. Certain carols will be presented in a fashion to encourage the audience to sing along. We will also include English country dancing in an effort to get the audience up on their feet and dancing with us.
After each performance we will offer a giant bowl of warm wassail and Twelfth Night Cakes (American palates differ from that of the British Isles so we will present our own tasty renditions). This will give the audience time to enjoy refreshments while mingling with our costumed performers.
