Furry Friends Like Black Friday
Forget fighting mobs at the mall for Black Friday deals.
The SCPA of Anne Arundel County offered the best deal around.
Any black animal — even with a speck of black — went up for adoption for free or at reduced rates.
Seventy cats and 23 dogs qualified for the Black Friday sale.
Last year, 18 animals were
adopted. The year before, 23.
This year, 32 animals purred and wagged their way into new homes, setting a new record for the shelter.
Eager customers lined up early for the 11am opening. One came all the way from Harford County.
Cats that normally adopt for $45 went for free on Black Friday. The adoption fee for dogs was cut in half, to $60 for a mixed-breed and $80 for a purebred.
“This is better than shopping at the mall, and it’s all for a great cause,” said Kim Teter, SPCA’s volunteer coordinator.
The deal is over, but good animals still need homes. Help the shelter reach its Homes for the Holidays goal of 300 animals by Christmas Eve: www.aacspca.org.
