Italian Drive-In?
Angelina’s Italian Kitchen in Edgewater isn’t a drive-thru restaurant. But one unlucky motorist almost turned it into one earlier this month.
Saturday evening, July 6, a motorist visiting the neighboring nail salon put his car into drive instead of reverse and drove into the restaurant’s front window, says owner MaryJo DeMilo.
“I was making pizza in the back and just heard this explosion. I didn’t know what had happened until we saw that the entire front window was gone.”
No one was injured.
“The windows and front door were broken, but thank God, no one was sitting there when it happened,” DeMilo said. “We were able to finish up the orders we had, but then had to close the store.”
Angelina’s was temporarily shuttered to clean up all the glass and await a structural inspection. DeMilo says the storefront is still boarded up, but she expects to reopen later this week.
“As long as no one was hurt, that’s all that matters,” she said’ It’s not a big deal in the long run.”
Named after her great-grandmother, Angelina Canestra, who found joy in cooking for family and friends, the family-owned and -operated restaurant prides itself in serving all homemade Italian food daily.
