Koats for Kids

Santa is checking his list, and Jack Frost is nipping at our noses, but it’s hard to bundle up against the cold without the proper gear. Calvert’s new Koats for Kids program hopes to give county kids all the bundling essentials this holiday season.

The program was born out of a partnership between Calvert Parks and Recreation and Maryland’s Department of Social Services. The partnership is new for Calvert, but community outreach is not.

“For many years we’ve hosted winter clothing drives out of our community centers for adults and kids,” said Robert Branham of Calvert Parks and Recreation. “This year we wanted to expand our community outreach.”

Koats for Kids is, as its name suggests, for kids. The center is accepting new and gently used coats for young Calvert residents but will take adult winter-wear as well.

Drop off any size, new or gently used, you choose, or for more personal giving, stop in to the Northeast Community Center and choose from ornaments detailing the sizing needs of each kid.

Drop off thru January at Northeast Community Center, Sunday to Thursday 8:30am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday to 11pm; 4075 Gordon Stinnett Ave. Chesapeake Beach. 410-535-1600, ext. 8210.
