Mark Yourself a Fire Hydrant
Fire hydrants are the latest foray into public art at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons. Also the most practical, satisfying the Calvert County Commissioners’ desire for fresh paint on county hydrants.
You, by yourself or with a team, are invited “to submit designs and compete for the privilege — and fun — of painting a fire hydrant in the Solomons-Dowell community,” says Garden director Stacey Hann-Ruff.
“There are plenty of hydrants. We’ll choose at least a dozen artists or teams. Maybe more,” says Hann-Ruff.
There are two rules: Your design must be inspired by life in and around Chesapeake Bay. It’s got to be fun.
“You don’t have to be a professional, just enthusiastic,” says Hann-Ruff.
You’ve got until March 31 to create your design. All designs will be posted on Facebook for public voting. Judges will announce final decisions at a Garden reception on April 20. Win and you’ll be painting your hydrant between June 1 and 17.
