One More Eye in the Sky
You don’t have to have been sobered by the movie Eye in the Sky to know that the airspace between us and the constellations is getting more traffic.
What’s up there, you wonder?
For that red-and-white helicopter you’ll see hovering above utility lines this spring, here’s the answer.
It’s BGE’s utility contractor Catalyst Aviation inspecting electric transmission rights of way in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County and Harford County. With 1,300 circuit miles of high voltage overhead electric transmission lines in central Maryland, the utility expects flights to continue through early June.
If you see the copter lingering over transmission power lines or flying along electric transmission rights of way, don’t let your urge to gawk distract you.
The utility advises “motorists and passersby to use caution in the vicinity of the work and maintain focus on traffic.”
