Packing Up Hunger

Nearly 34 percent of Anne Arundel County young people struggle with food insecurity — having reliable access to sufficient quantities of affordable and nutritious food. Local businesses recently joined forces with the nonprofit group Generosity Feeds to help ease those hunger pangs.

“Nearly one in five kids go hungry every day in the U.S.,” says Ron Klabunde, founder and CEO of Generosity Feeds. “With partnerships and donations, we now have the ability to extend our impact nationally. We have discovered that the value of decreasing food insecurity is more than just giving people food. It involves mobilizing people into a lifestyle of generosity.”

MOD Pizza answered that call with the support of over more than 500 volunteers of all ages at a packing event March 24 at Germantown Elementary School.

Assembly lines measured, packed and sealed for distribution more than 20,000 meals for The Bridge Church Backpack Program and Tyler Heights Elementary School. Each meal package consists of two servings of black beans, rice, mixed vegetables and seasoning.

Generosity Feeds and MOD Pizza were joined by Revolution Annapolis, Weems Creek Church, Giant Foods, Chick-fil-A, The Brown Mustache, Starbucks, Tyler Technology, Crosby Marketing Communications, Secure Offices, ProObject and Graul’s Market.

The weekend’s meal packing event is part of a nationwide initiative from Generosity Feeds and MOD Pizza to create more than 500,000 meals by the end of 2018.
