South County’s Arts Colony

For shoppers, Muddy Creek Artists Guild’s annual holiday show and sale is about finding gifts from the arts to fill their shopping lists and — very likely — indulge themselves.
With 55 artists showing and selling hundreds of creations in the Guild’s biggest show of the year, there’s lots to see, admire and desire.
For artists, the eight-year-old Guild has become a community where they develop their strength and vision.
“We tapped into an art vein we didn’t know existed,” says founding president Bea Poulin. “We did a call and 30 artists showed up. By the end of the year, we had 100 members. As we grow, the more we are identified as artists.”
Recognition of the Guild’s achievement came this year in the form of an Annie, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County’s awards celebrating artistic accomplishment and inspiration.
Poulin was honored with this year’s Arts Patron award, one of seven recipients of the 18th Annual Annie Awards for arts excellence.
“Bea’s advocacy makes her a leader in helping create a vibrant cultural arts community within the county,” says the Council’s April Nyman
“It is wonderful to be acknowledged by the Guild, which nominated me, and the Council for identifying artists and promoting art in South County while creating synergy with our businesses, community associations and citizens,” she told Bay Weekly.
