Tastes of Early Summer
It’s not summer yet, but things are heating up. This Saturday, June 8, Camp Letts in Edgewater hosts the second annual Chesapeake Wingstock Festival. This tasty fundraiser supports Camp Letts’ Caring for Community Campaign, which provides kids in need with full and partial scholarships to attend camp. Seven local restaurants fire up their best wings for both judges’ and people’s choice awards. There are lots of activities for the youngsters (12 and under get free admission) with a kid zone, moon bounce and frolicking in the pool. There’s live music, food sales and, for the over-21 crowd, alcoholic beverages. Worth watching is the wing-eating contest.
$20 plus a premium for wing tasting and judging.
Gordon Biersch gets a jump on the season with the introduction of Summerbrau brew and Tastes of Summer menu. Located at the Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole, Gordon Biersch has its own on-site brewery (public tours available). The Summerbrau is a lighter beer made with German yeast in the Kolsch style originating in Cologne, Germany. This special lager (and any Biersch drafts) can be purchased in a refillable growler ($5 or $10) filled at the bar. A fill-up runs $11 for the special brews and will quench a big thirst at two liters.
The Tastes of Summer menu highlights foods that pair well with Gordon Biersch’s Summerbrau and signature mojito. Lobster and shrimp tacos, seared Ahi tuna and bourbon chicken with grilled shrimp are a few options.
Both the Summerbrau and the seasonal menu will be gone by early July, just in time for the next new brew, the Blonde Bock, which will be tapped in celebration of the restaurant chain’s 25th anniversary.
